Welcome! This site connects you with others to lose weight. It was created by me to help people lose weight like my mom was able to do. My name is Steve Richards and I will explain my full story below, but first let me tell you about this site. Here you can connect with other people using the magic of the Internet to learn what truly works for weight loss. Just click the top links to read or share tips, diets, and success stories for encouragement. I have also included weight loss topics that you may find helpful on the right.
The Inspiration for this Site
As I mentioned above, my mom was able to successfully lose weight. This was mostly do to my research, learning and efforts to help her. We have had such a turnaround and improvement in her health that I wanted to share our story and try helping others lose weight as well. My profession is actually in computers, which is how I set up this site. I have learned a lot about weight loss, too, because of my mom.
My mom is truly great. She raised eight kids including myself, and that’s partly how she gained so much weight. She stayed home and took care of us kids while my dad worked long hours. She didn’t work anywhere or go outside much. To keep herself entertained she would just sit and watch t.v. while eating homemade ice cream. Sometimes she would get emotionally stressed from my dad, or maybe from us, and she would eat even more. Pretty soon she was well over 300 pounds, and she stayed that way for many years.
As I grew older throughout the years she would try different things to get the weight off. You name it, she tried it. I was always there supporting her and trying to help as best I could. I’ve always been a pretty intelligent person, getting good grades in school. I figured that I could solve any problem I set my mind to. I felt bad seeing my mom struggle to lose weight and have little or no success. I really wanted to see her succeed but it was not my top priority. I knew she would look and feel much better, but there were other things in life to take our attention away from the weight loss issue. That’s one of the reasons I feel that people have trouble losing weight. We get busy with other things that distract us. As a result the extra weight really never goes away.
Once I was grown and had moved out of the house I gave less thought to my mom’s weight problem. It was still an ongoing battle, but we didn’t talk about it very often at all. Things changed once my mom had reached her fifties and went for a regular medical checkup. We discovered that she had developed diabetes. That was a major wake up call. I didn’t know very much about the disease, so I started researching everything about it. I learned that there is no cure yet, and that the best thing to help is to lose weight. It was now a top priority to get the weight off. My mom was getting older and I knew that things would only get worse. Diabetes can continue progressing to a very bad stage and even be fatal. Her health was in danger. That is when I really started to focus my mind on the weight loss problem.
I had always remembered all the diets and programs that my mom tried. They were stuck somewhere in the back of my mind. I started to think through all of the things in the past that had produced some success. I noted the things that didn’t. I also thought about everything I ever learned about how the body works, including how it changes food into energy. I have always pretty healthy, eating right and doing fun exercise like sports or outdoor activities. I used all my knowledge and experiences to come up with my own ideas about how to be successful at true weight loss. It turns out that a lot of what I came up with worked! At one point my mom took my advice and lost about 10 pounds in just 2 weeks.
At first we were both really excited! My mom told me that it felt like she was escaping from being in jail for many years. She felt that soon she would have all the extra weight off. Unfortunately, that didn’t turn out to be the final solution. Although my mom loved my technique because she could eat without feeling hungry, but she later complained that it was hard to get used to eating in such a specific way. What I learned at that point is very important. I learned that there are many possible solutions to weight loss, and that even something that works must be able to fit into the person’s lifestyle long enough to get the weight off. Each person will be most successful using things that fit their own lifestyle, personality, and situation the best. I’m going to explain the techniques I came up with, and how I came up with them. You can read them and try them out yourself to see how successful you can be. I think that many people will be able to use the techniques, and advice as tools in different ways. It will depend on each individual how much success they can achieve, because not everyone will be the same. That’s why I think this site can be very useful. People can share and exchange tips and information about many things that can work and be helpful. I believe everyone will be able to achieve some high level of success because it’s just a matter of understanding the basic things needed for weight loss, and finding out what works best for you. My mom has since been able to get rid of a lot of extra weight, but it has happened more gradually. This fit into her life better, and the important thing is that the weight that has come off has dramatically improved her diabetic condition.
